USA High Performance Clinic

What a fantastic weekend!! Reed and I took a break from recruiting (Thanks Myanna) so that we could venture out to Colorado Springs to the Olympic Training Center for a coaches clinic. The clinic was put on by the USA High Performance department and it showcased Hugh McCutcheon, Karch Kiraly, Jamie Morrison and Aaron Brock - the USA Volleyball staff - among others, as presenters at the clinic!

It was great to take away some very experienced knowledge of the game of volleyball from such wonderful coaches. One of the most valuable things that I will take away from the clinic is the value of the details. I came into our gym this morning with a fresh eye and very focused on the small movements that can make up the success of the larger movement. I believe that Hugh and his staff do an excellent job of explaining the biomechanics and the underlying principles behind everything that they are doing with their team; this is wonderful tool to bring into my teaching - Thanks USA!

Reed and I have been honored to be a part of the High Performance program and I know that I can speak for both of us when I say that we are looking forward to seeing what the USA teams will do in London in 2012! Go USA! - Erin

Working Hard!

We are now fully back in the swing of things, having workouts and getting some training done in the gym! We just had our second day of small groups and it is SO good to be back in the gym with the players! We are breaking things down and really making sure that everyone’s technique is on point. We train in 30 minutes sessions and that really allows us to focus on one or two things we need to train for each individual player. I think the team really embraces the detail and precision of what we are asking each of them to do. It can be frustrating at times, especially when what you are trying to change can be something extremely small. However, the players recognize that the small changes can have an extremely large impact and can create hugely successful results!
In addition to the workouts and volleyball training the team is now in their third week of classes and tests are beginning to pop up on the schedule. The ladies are studying hard and learning a lot. Our Student Athlete Study Hall, Computer Lab, and Tutor Rooms are on the floor below the coach’s offices and I’ve been seeing our players in and out of these rooms a lot! It is so nice as a coach to see the players work so hard both in the gym and weight room, and in the class room.

Remember: The Volleyball team is putting on a Fundraiser on February 2nd at Noodles & Company in Hyde Park from 5p-9p to raise money for our trip to Brazil and Argentina!

Foreign Trip Fundraiser - Noodles & Company

Good morning! Our team is having a fundraiser in the effort to raise money to send our team to Brazil and Argentina this summer. Every four years, the NCAA allows our program to travel overseas to compete. We have raised a good amount so far, but we still need to keep working to reach our fund goal.

Come join us at Noodles & Company in Hyde Park (3703 Isabella Ave Cincinnati, OH 45208) on Tuesday, February 2, anytime between 5pm and 9pm. A percent of the final bill will go to the University of Cincinnati Volleyball team!

See you on the 2nd!!

Back at it!

So we are back in class today! The team is busy getting their books, attending class and re-decorating their dorm rooms. We will start up with our lifting and running on Wednesday morning; met with our strength coach this morning and he is excited to get the girls back at it this week.

After just a couple weeks of lifting and running, and getting the legs ready, we will jump into our practices. This time of year, we are only allowed 8 hours/week with the team, so 6 of those hours are spent conditioning and lifting and only 2 hours/week are spent in the gym. It isn't a lot of time, so we need to be efficient!

I am sure that Reed and Myanna will return from their warm homelands (Hawaii and Austin, respectively) with a bit of a tan ... I'll be sure to be jealous!
